The
Supergods
|
|
The ancient Mayan people predicted that the world will end in 2012
and believed we are living in the fifth, and final, age of the sun.
These mysterious beliefs are now being backed up by modern scientific
findings - but how did these people living more than 1,000 years ago
in the jungles of Central America come to possess such extraordinary
insight? Where did this super-knowledge come from? Combining the skills
of a private detective with the passion of Indiana Jones, Cotterel
journeys to Palenque, to the tomb of the Mayan priest-king Lord Pacal,
to discover the truth. The amazing conclusions he reaches have profound
implications for us all. |

The
Mayan Prophecies
|
| Meso-American
history and prophecy become lucid and rational in this forum. Save
for a bit of mathematics and formulaic equations (which can be intimidating
to some) it is a clear and compelling read. Bauval and Cotterell take
the ominous date of 12/22/2012 and transform it from a day of judgement
(which many wrongly interpret it to be) into one of natural, albeit
monumental, change. This is a perspective that deserves consideration.
No matter one's opinion regarding their findings, it is a wonderful
argument for expanding what we deem worthy of teaching in history
and culture classes. It leaves the reader pondering questions about
what information we will not retrieve from the Mayan culture. |
